Guided snorkeling and scuba excursions to Looe Key Reef depart daily at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., weather permitting; Looe Key is part of the third-largest barrier reef in North America. Yes. Hobie Cat sailboats are part of the complimentary fleet, and the four 13-foot Boston Whalers are kept for guest use on the nearby sandbars. Kayaks and paddleboards need no reservation at all, so you can take one from the beach whenever the mood strikes and paddle the island’s shoreline, solo or together in a double kayak. For a longer day on the water the concierge arranges private charters and sunset cruises, with champagne and coastal-inspired bites if you want them. The resort marina sits in the protected water of Newfound Harbor.

Fishing runs the full range: spear, backcountry, offshore, reef and wreck. Beyond that the team arranges backcountry island-hopping, wakeboarding, sandbar picnics and a day trip to the Dry Tortugas by seaplane. The shoreline is a natural Florida Keys ecosystem of shallow turquoise water, seagrass beds and mangrove-lined edges rather than a Caribbean-style white-sand swimming beach. It is at its best for sunset, hammocks, loungers, fire pits and long walks, with island-inspired food and cocktails brought quietly to your chaise or beach bed. For swimming and snorkeling, the daily Looe Key Reef excursions are the answer. The lagoon-style pool at the center of the island is the other, with handcrafted drinks, light island fare and cabana service alongside it.
